About Us

What can we do with our farm???

Morning Star Alpaca Farm is a family business owned & operated by Jamie Grillo along with Jamie's son Adam Tyler with help with friends along the way.

Having been raised on the farmstead Jamie's family has owned since 1943,  we have built our Alpaca farm.  The farm brings back sweet memories for Jamie.  As a girl, Jamie was raised in Greenwood, loved the lifestyle she had growing up with horses and all sorts of barnyard animals and farming.  Once bitten by the Alpaca bug in 2009, she just couldn't stop thinking and reading and planning for this day.

After moving back home to the farm and building our new home we tried several ways to make a profit on  our farm.  First we planted 400 strawberry plants and sold them in the several short weeks they are in harvest.  We said "Come Pick Your Own"  or we pick...We picked...and picked...Not enough profit to make it worth it.  Then we planted the fields with sweet corn.  We couldn't give it away!  No profits....

Then in 2009 Jamie met an alpaca owner from NJ at an old friend's house in Lewes, DE and she gave us a drive around the corner to a Dr's wife who has a beautiful farm with about 6-8 lovely alpacas grazing in the green pasture.  That did it!  I couldn't learn more about them.  I read and read and gathered as much information and visited other farms over a two year period of time and then~~~a local farm I had an interest in decided to go out of business after they experienced a divorce.  I said to my husband John "They're coming in two weeks!"  I had my company build the barn and John single handedly hand dug the first pasture's post holes and put up the fence.  We had those first ten alpacas in two weeks!  Our farm came ALIVE the day we brought these animals home.

It's been a very exciting ride so far and we love the lifestyle. We love working with these graceful animals.  Nothing is more lovely than watching them graze, pronk, run and play.  It's very rewarding.  Even better is the anticipation and excitement of new baby crias!  What gender they will be, what color, what quality...and their playfulness...

Our first love of business has been The Amish Tradesmen,  which is a Pole Building company that Jamie started in 2007.  Only Amish craftsmenship goes into our top-quality pole buildings, custom home framing and masonry projects.  You may call on us to build your new Alpaca Barn.  We have two sample buildings on site to view our quality, one of which is our Alpaca Barn and stables...
